Women's Rugby - Panthers want early scores against Cyclones

The Eastern women's rugby team has a definite plan of attack for Saturday's game against Iowa State. The Panthers want to control the first 15 or 20 minutes of the game and put points on the board early, head coach Frank Graziano said. "It really builds up the team and builds up the team's confidence as a whole," freshman prop/lock Tasha Buchmiller said about scoring early. (0) comments

Women's Soccer - Panthers play first home match of season

The Eastern women's soccer team opens the home portion of its schedule with a match at 5 p.m. tonight at Lakeside Field. After starting the season with four straight road games that produced a 0-3-1 record, the Panthers have two chances to get in the win column with today's match against Wright State and Sunday's match against Eastern Michigan. Football: Panthers fall to the Fighting Illini 47-21

UPDATED: 9/6 - 3:10 P.M. CHAMPAIGN - Eastern had a chance to take the lead against No. 24 Illinois about six minutes before halftime. The Panthers had the ball at the Illinois seven-yard line, but could not pick up that crucial yard with consecutive rushing plays. Illinois then scored twice before the second quarter came to a close to increase their lead to 19-7 en route to a 47-21 victory. (4) comments

Football: Another dose of the spread

Central Michigan's offense spread the field against Eastern last week in Mount Pleasant, Mich. The Panthers can expect the same thing Saturday when they travel to Champaign to play No. 24 Illinois. Eastern will hold its first Walt Crawford Alumni Meet at 5 p.m. Saturday. The Panthers have had an alumni meet for many years but head coach Geoff Masanet decided this summer he wanted to name it after Crawford. Crawford is an alum of the Eastern cross country team. (0) comments

The Eastern men's soccer team won its home opener on Aug. 31, 3-2 against Missouri-Kansas City. The next time the Panthers will play at Lakeside Field will be 20 days after their victory against the Kangaroos. Eastern begins its string of four straight road games starting 3 p. (0) comments

Volleyball: Eastern tries to work out the kinks

Eastern head volleyball coach Lori Bennett said she wasn't pleased with the .044 hitting percentage the Panthers had against Indiana State in Tuesday's four-set loss at Terre Haute, Ind. She isn't panicking though. Bennett is having her players work on their transition offense before hosting the Panther Tournament this weekend at Lantz Arena. (0) comments
