A man who admitted stabbing another man late last year when they were both Eastern Illinois University students was ordered to pay for the injured man's medical expenses and to serve two months in jail.

Those were among the terms of the two-year probation sentence that Matthew A. Bagnall received after he pleaded guilty to an aggravated battery charge. Bagnall, 19, no address on record, was accused of stabbing Brandt L. Schisler during a fight at a house party in Charleston on Dec. 7.

On Tuesday, Circuit Judge Teresa Righter accepted a plea agreement for the probation sentence that included Bagnall paying nearly $3,900 in restitution to Schisler. The sentence also included two months in jail with another four months of jail time stayed, meaning it could be imposed if Bagnall violates any of his probation terms.

Bagnall had been free on bond but was taken into custody at the end of Tuesday's hearing.
