A memorial was held for student Lauren Sturgeon, 21, on Saturday at Summers-Kistler Funeral Home in Olney.

Sturgeon, a junior family and consumer sciences major, passed away at St. John's Hospital in Springfield on April 16.

"Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of EIU student Lauren Sturgeon," said Dan Nadler, vice president for student affairs. "We extend our deepest sympathies, and are offering our support to all those impacted by her death."

Nadler said Sturgeon's cause of death is unknown at this time.

Eastern's Counseling Center is offering individual and group support services. Any student needing support should contact the center at 581-3413, or at 348-2909 for emergency situations.

Sturgeon, originally from Olney, graduated from Wabash Valley College prior to coming to Eastern.

She is survived by her parents, Loy and Lynne Sturgeon, of Olney; and brother, Landon Sturgeon, of Terre Haute, Ind.

"We are shocked and saddened by the loss of Lauren," Nadler said.
