Sunday marked the second annual Run for Glory, a race/walk in memory of Alegria, an Eastern student and marathon runner who died on March 17, 2006.
Nearly 150 people registered, and Ivette Alegria-Gorman, Algeria's mother, said others were running but not registered. Many of the participants were members of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, to which Alegria belonged.
Proceeds from the Run for Glory would be given to the EIU Glorivette Alegria Scholarship Fund.
"It touches us greatly how many people showed up," said Tom Gorman, Alegria's stepfather.
A scholarship has also been set up at Waubonsee Valley High School, where Alegria attended and ran track.

Smile onto us...my "Sunflower"...always in our hearts... You can shed tears that she is gone...or you can smile because she has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back. (Continued…)
