Months of intense workouts, strict diets and extreme dedication culminated in Saturday night's Mr. EIU-Ms. EIU Fitness competition before a standing-room only crowd in the Grand Ballroom of the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union.

Dave Keyes, a senior physical education major, earned the title of Mr. EIU, while Jill Romanowski, a senior economics major, won the title of Ms. EIU.

Romanowski beat out Katie Lehner, a senior physical education major, for the title.

Both competitors came to the stage and performed a posing routine set to music.

"The drive that drove me to get here is to thank for it," Romanowski said. "It's an awesome feeling."

The men's competition was split into four divisions: bantam, middleweight, light-heavyweight and heavyweight. Nine male competitors participated.

The winners of the four divisions met again in the finals, where they did group and individual posing for judges.

"The training paid off," said Keyes, who beat out Joe Burton, a senior physical education major, in the light-heavyweight division to advance to the finals. "It's the greatest thing in the world, to have the love of everyone. I can feel the love."

not impressed with people that take steroids and other illegal substances to be declared "Mr. EIU fitness" that title is a joke. I feel bad for all of the "competitors" as they have no idea how bad they are damaging their bodies and how funny they actually look. (Continued…)
