Trash of all shapes and sizes was loaded into dumpster after dumpster by Charleston city workers this Saturday using waste-handling bulldozers and even their bare hands. Old couches, broken chairs and seemingly endless supply of trash bags filled the large, blue dumpsters to the brim. (0) comments

Wind Symphony gets Halloween spirit

Richard Rossi, conductor of the Eastern Symphony Orchestra, has been conducting extra rehearsals because of two concerts taking place closely together. "Fright Night," a Halloween-inspired concert, took place Sunday night. In a couple weeks, the symphony will be featured in another concert titled "Bach, Beethoven and Brahms. (0) comments

Play addresses gay hate crimes

On Oct. 6 1998, Matthew Shepard was found beaten and covered in dried blood except for one area - where he had been crying. He was bound to a fence next to railroad tracks in Laramie, Wyo. On Oct. 12, Shepard died. The 21-year-old University of Wyoming student was the victim of an anti-gay hate crime. (0) comments

Meet the President

Eastern is turning a new leaf as it prepares to inaugurate Dr. William L. Perry as Eastern's 10th sitting president. Perry, the former vice provost and mathematics professor at Texas A&M, took office as Eastern's president July 1, and is set to be inaugurated on Nov. (0) comments

Maintaining traditions

When Mae Peshalakai first went to school at the age of 9, she faced obstacles right from the beginning. "I did not speak a word of English, not even 'yes' or 'no'." Peshlakai is a Navajo Indian and she and the other Navajo students she went to school with were forced to speak only English. (0) comments

A Chevrolet pick-up truck was struck by another vehicle Oct. 19 while parked in the J lot. Thomas J. Kelley, 19, of Chicago, was arrested on a charge of battery at 3 a.m. Oct. 19 at Carman Hall. A 2003 Pontiac was damaged Oct. 22 while parked in the E lot. (0) comments
