Students pack Underground for controversial comedian

The comic styles of Tim Young drew 250 people to 7th Street Underground Friday night. Side areas that are usually partitioned had to be opened and with extra seats brought in, the show was still standing room only. The crowd continued to flood in until Young took the stage at 9:07 p.

The Martin Luther King Jr. University Union Bookstore does not have a problem selling gear to Eastern students, administrators, alumni and visitors. The bookstore sells all kinds of apparel supporting Eastern's image. Judi Konrad, the bookstore's assistant manager, said there are several Eastern logos on the clothing items they sell in the bookstore.

The developers of the much disputed University Village will open their model home within the next two weeks so leasing can begin in two weeks. Art McManus, University Village developer, said the hardest part is over and construction can start. "There is no doubt in my mind that we will be done by fall," McManus said.

Student Senate Wednesday will appoint 14 new members from more than 30 prospective candidates at its first meeting of the year. The 14 open positions come as no surprise to Student Senate Speaker Adam Howell. The number of applicants, however, is a surprise, he said.

Campus repaired

Students no longer have to look at chipped paint or trip over a crack in the sidewalk on campus because of changes being made to improve the campus' appearance, Eastern administrators say. These changes include replaced sidewalks, repaired parking lots, improved campus signage and enhanced landscaping areas on campus, said Gary Reed, director of Facilities Planning and Management.

Karla Sanders, director of the Center for Academic Support, will report to the Faculty Senate Tuesday about Electronic Writing Portfolios. It is simply seeing what the data gathered from EWPs over the last few years suggests, said senate vice chair Jeff Ashley.

A common goal of labor unions is to gain better working conditions, better salaries and better benefits for their workers. On Saturday, Charleston labor unions from various industries met for an annual picnic in Fox Ridge State Park. The Rich Dulka Memorial Picnic was a free event for members and their families.

Greek members chill out and give support

Eastern's Greek community hosted a barbecue and games on campus to support St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, the Greek community's official philanthropy project. "We have been affiliated with St. Jude for five years now," said Bob Dudolski, director of Greek life.

Shuttle stops on campus will soon be clearly marked to ensure students don't miss the bus. Confusion concerning the times and places at which the shuttle bus stops resulted in changes during last Tuesday's Student Senate Shuttle Bus Committee meeting. Students have been having trouble with changes made to the bus route and schedule earlier this year, as reported in the Aug.
