Alcohol citations increased

The Charleston Police Department saw an increase in alcohol-related activity during Homecoming weekend that cumulated with the department issuing 44 alcohol-related citations Thursday at a house party along 10th Street. Deputy Police Chief Dave Chambers said 48 total alcohol-related citations were issued during the weekend - most of them for underage consumption. (0) comments

WEIU, local businesses to send care packages to service people

Although Christmas is two months away, WEIU has teamed up with the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Coles County Meth Awareness Coalition to collect items for holiday care packages to send to local troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Ke'an Armstrong, the publicity/promotions/outreach/grant manager for WEIU-TV, said this is the first year WEIU has collected care packages. (0) comments

Comedy and costumes will abound tonight in 7th Street Underground. Mission Improvable, an improvisational comedy troupe from Chicago, will perform at 9 p.m. today. The troupe will interact with the audience and perform skits based on improvisation. Anyone who has ever seen the show "Whose Line is it Anyway?" will know exactly what quick-draw, fast-paced improv comedy is about. (0) comments

The president's council is already mapping the next stage of the Campus Master Plan with the planning for a new science building at Tuesday's Faculty Senate meeting. Projects President Bill Perry said a new science building is the next step. Council approves electrical contract

The city will see a little more than $100,000 in electrical savings in the future. The City Council unanimously approved the electrical contract with Ameren Energy Marketing Co. that will reduce electrical costs by 27 percent, which amounts to about $122,000 in savings. (0) comments
