In the wake of the H1N1 influenza outbreak in the United States, many have taken precautions to avoid contracting the illness. Eastern staff and faculty have also taken steps to make students, staff and faculty more aware of the virus. Yesterday, the Illinois minimum wage increased from $7.75 to $8 per hour. While many may be excited to receive the extra quarter for every hour, many small businesses will start to feel the pinch when trying to pay their employees. In 1991, Desert Storm veterans were coming home, and the nation was ready to celebrate the safe return of troops. A group in Charleston formed to plan a community event for the Fourth of July. "A lot of parents of Desert Storm veterans got together to have a small celebration that turned into a large celebration," Betty Coffrin, one of the original Red, White and Blue Days committee members, said.
