The battle has only begun

The battle that started it all is back for another semester. And only two days are left to submit mp3s to denverge@gmail.com. Once again, the Verge and the University Board are co-sponsoring a campuswide battle of the bands. The submission deadline is March 29, and voting will be open to the public on April 1. (0) comments

We all dream of the good life. Money, cars, mansions and, for some of us, half-naked women, drugs and a constant flow of our favorite beverage. For a lot of musicians, "making it big" means having a video on MTV, going on a big-name tour and having 15-year-old girls wearing your band's T-shirt and screaming your name. (0) comments

Safe Haven appreciates college atmosphere

Chicago-based band Safe Haven will be performing at 9 p.m. Saturday at Mad Hatter's, 1419 Fourth St. The band was able to set up the show at Mad Hatters when they first played in Charleston at a house party a little less than a year ago. Music Review: Dazy Head Mazy fails to impress

A simplistic sound seems to be what Dazy Head Mazy was going for, but the band overstayed its welcome and left us with something simply generic. Dazy Head Mazy's fifth studio album, "Mercury Said 65," proves to be a common form of jam band that is heard far too often. (0) comments

Movie Review: A Shot At 'Bromance'

What is new is the cultural obsession over this love. "I Love You, Man" would be best described as a "bromantic comedy," a pioneer in a genre set to blow up. (0) comments

When a well-respected work of fiction is translated to movie, tension erupts. Either the fans enjoy seeing their favorite character in motion, or fear is ignited and the fans butt heads with the loss of translation during filming. The movie adaptation of "Watchmen" remained faithful to the graphic novel, but some trouble in switching from paper and ink to the big screen remained. (1) comment

"Side by Side by Sondheim," a musical revue celebrating the musical works of legendary Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. today in the Black Box Theater at the Doudna Fine Arts Center. Being a musical revue, the production contains no traditional plot, although director Adam Stitch notes that because each song comes from a Broadway show, they each have their own small plot.
