The Eastern men's basketball team improved to 3-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference Saturday with an 83-63 road win against Southeast Missouri on Saturday in Cape Girardeau, Mo. The win puts the Panthers in sole possession of third place in the conference. The bench for the Panthers (6-9, 3-2 OVC) was the difference in the game as they scored 30 points, led by junior forward Edin Suljic who tied junior center Ousmane Cisse for a team high with 16 points. Tristan Burge, who had two all-Ohio Valley Conference seasons at Eastern as well as a brief stint with the Green Bay Packers' practice squad, has been signed by the Bloomington Extreme for the 2009 season. Burge was a free agent siged by the Packers in 2007 after being named third-team All-American at Eastern, where he was second on the team in tackles and started all 13 games at strong safety in 2006. At halftime of Saturday's game at Southeast Missouri, it appeared the Eastern women's basketball team was poised for a 5-0 Ohio Valley Conference start and its first win in Cape Girardeau, Mo., since 2001. Eastern's prowess in the NFL took a hit during the Winter Break. For starters, former Eastern quarterback Mike Shanahan was fired by the Denver Broncos.
