Drew Griffin won the Student Senate Speaker position for the spring. The announcement was made at Wednesday's Student Senate meeting. He was appointed to the senate this semester and has been the chair of the external relations committee as well. State Rep. Chapin Rose expects the resolution that begins the impeachment process of Gov. Rod Blagojevich to progress when the General Assembly meets for a new session next week. Students may have experienced a few problems when submitting their Electronic Writing Portfolios because of technical difficulties with the server, but steps are being taken to fix the problems. Kathy Reed, the associate director of Information Technology Services, said graduate students have not been allowed to access the application and no one was allowed to access the application for about two hours nightly because a data source used with the EWP application is being rebuilt. Part-time instructors are detrimental to student success, according to a national study, but that appears not to be the case with Eastern. In a Nov. 14 Chronicle of Higher Education article, Paul D. Umbach, professor of adult and higher education at North Carolina State University, found in his study that for each 10 percent of credits taken with part-time faculty members, a student's success rate falls by 2 percent.
