The Eastern men's basketball team dropped its regular season opener 72-59 on Saturday against Ball State in Muncie, Ind. The Panthers (0-1) were down 23-6 to start the game and battled back in the second half to get the score to 58-52 with 4 minutes, 47 seconds remaining, but the Cardinals (1-0) were able to hold on to beat Eastern in their own season opener. The Eastern men's and women's swimming teams increased their losing streak to four as both teams lost their dual meet against conference rival Western Illinois on Friday at Brophy Hall Pool in Macomb. Austin Peay took a 15-13 lead on Saturday afternoon at O'Brien Stadium on a 45-yard touchdown run by red-shirt freshman running back Ryan White. The Governors held on to that two-point lead for their second win of the season even after Eastern was six yards from scoring a game-winning touchdown with less than one minute remaining in the game.
