A comedic night at the opera

Ashley McHugh has a very hard time hitting people. Even when she's supposed to. "She cried yesterday at rehearsal," said Adam Stich, the director of an opera performance scheduled for 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday at The Theatre in Doudna. "It was sweet." "We have fun messing around with it, but it's like a full-out swing," McHugh said. (0) comments

Recently I've become obsessed with the Web site, NaNoWriMo. With all the creative minds at Eastern, the site should be more popular. NaNoWriMo is short for National Novel Writing Month. The object of the game is to write a 50,000-word novel by the end of November. (0) comments

Ancient 'Medea' lives on

The first performance in the Black Box Theater at Doudna will be this coming week. The Theater Arts Department will perform "Medea" beginning this weekend and into early next week. Comedian Eric Blake: From streets to stage

Eric Blake is from Los Angeles, the Southside of Los Angeles. He grew up basically on the streets in what he calls the "hood." When Blake became an adult, he realized he did not want to be on the streets anymore. "I was at a point in my life that I needed something new," Blake said. (0) comments

An international man of mystery, James Bond has it all: Beautiful women, fast cars, high-tech gadgets and the coolest job on the planet. Women want him; men want to be him. Bond, James Bond, originated in a 1953 novel by British author and journalist Ian Fleming. (0) comments

Girl Talk brought about a brand new flavor in your ear among a sold-out crowd at Urbana's Canopy Club on Nov. 5. Gregg Gillis, aka Girl Talk, is a DJ from Pittsburgh who can be described as a nuclear warhead of energy just waiting to erupt throughout the crowd. (2) comments

The Paper Café is an artist's haven. The artists' space is currently a showcase of houseplants and a wide variety of pieces left over from previous art shows. A ceramic breast sits on a shelf above a display case of exaggerated animal statues. In the next room, which serves as the main gallery, Seth Carpenter's collection of photos that look like paintings and colorful, quirky collages are still on display. (0) comments

In a world driven by pop culture, movie quotes seem to fuel most conversations on a college campus. You'll be sitting around with your friends, sharing stories and laughs, when someone finally says it. Well, maybe Will Ferrell said it first. Or perhaps it was Steve Carrell. (0) comments
