Stephen Canfield thinks it is not up to the Council on Academic Affairs to decide whether or not the revised foreign language requirement would detract potential students from Eastern. A competition among Eastern's residence halls challenges students to show their spirit for an event and a prize no college student can pass up - football and pizza. When James Ochwa-Echel came to Eastern earlier this year, he was given a daunting task: design an on-campus program to promote global diversity. The program, already dubbed the Interdisciplinary Center for Global Diversity, would bring together representatives of Asian studies, African-American studies, women's studies and Latino studies. This year's Essence of a Man competition will allow three men to convey their talents and express themselves in ways that are unique among their peers. Preston Smith, a sophomore biological sciences major and winner of the 2007 Essence of a Man competition, coordinated this year's competition. (0) comments
City Comptroller Heather Kuykendall was clear about Charleston's plan for the future in an economy that is struggling. Projections by Kuykendall and City Manager Scott Smith predict the national economic downturn will affect Charleston in two years, with the 2010-2011 Fiscal Year Budget. (0) comments
"The Dark Knight" will be shown on campus this week in the Buzzard Hall Auditorium. Show times are at 7 and 10 tonight and 4, 7 and 10 p.m. Saturday. There is no charge for attendance. At RHA's meeting Thursday, the association focused on charitable events that permeate Eastern this time of year. The most familiar of these events was the initial planning for the 2009 Relay for Life. Eastern participates in the event every year - last year's event raised more than $60,500 for cancer awareness and research. (0) comments
Apportionment Board unanimously allocated more money at its meeting for University Board payroll on Thursday night in the Arcola-Tuscola Room of the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union. The additional allocation was $2,670. "Last year, we made a projection of what we thought this year's salaries were going to be," AB member Ted Hart said. (0) comments
