Not this week: Apportionment Board did not officially meet because of absent members

Apportionment Board did not have an official meeting last night because four members were missing. Apportionment Board Chair Tiffany Turner said the meeting did not meet its quorum. Turner said the four members might not have received the e-mail about the meeting prior to Thursday night. (0) comments

Celebrating Pemberton Hall's 100th anniversary with alumni this weekend would not make sense without knowing the person behind the name. Pemberton Hall is named in honor of Illinois Sen. Stanton C. Pemberton of Oakland. He encouraged Illinois to approve the appropriation to allow a state university to have the first dormitory in the state. (0) comments

About one and a half to two inches of water filled the Doudna Fine Arts Center's main floor Thursday because of a broken sprinkler. Firefighters arrived at the building at 12:34 p.m. after Doudna had already been evacuated. Firefighter James Calvert said a construction worker accidentally knocked off the head to a sprinkler near the west entrance door. (0) comments

Ford Hall places first in ROC Fest 2008; Delta Zetas to host drunk driving simulation

A blue, wooden guitar cutout was awarded to Ford Hall after they were announced as winners of the 2008 ROC Fest at last night's RHA meeting. Ford Hall defeated McKinney Hall by only 0.4 points to claim this year's title. Pemberton Hall followed in third place. (0) comments

Spirit soars at 'Yell Like Hell' competition

Alpha Gamma Delta, Sigma Pi, the Black Student Union and Mike Leon walked away winners at the "Yell Like Hell" and "Who Wants to be a Mascot" competitions Thursday night in the McAfee Gymnasium as part of Homecoming Week events. Alpha Gamma Delta and Sigma Pi performed as a group, representing Greek Life, and the BSU represented the RSOs. (0) comments

Only trained faculty evaluate writing sample

Blair Lord believes several misconceptions regarding the Electronic Writing Portfolio have appeared since the new system was implemented Sept. 9. Lord, provost and vice president for academic affairs, said a major misconception is whether or not another faculty member is evaluating the writing assignment that was evaluated by the faculty member who assigned it. This weekend Eastern's Alumni Association will honor 10 alumni because of individual accomplishments and work given toward the university. The Distinguished Alumni Award was created in 1973 and is the most prestigious award Alumni Association gives to alumni. (0) comments
