Illinois and Coles County unemployment rates remain stable, despite the crippling national economy, climbing only one-tenth of a percent from July to August. Ceci Brinker said a celebrity emcee would not be leading this year's Homecoming pep rally. "The homecoming committee didn't want to rush in and do anybody," said Brinker, the director of student life. Noel Brodsky thinks U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson wants $700 billion to play with. "He is part of the problem," said Brodsky, an economics professor. "It looks like he is asking for money for his (Wall Street) friends." In a memorandum Tuesday to the department of biological sciences, President Bill Perry said he would not be initiating removal proceedings on the chair and interim vice chair of the department. On Sept. 11, the department of biological sciences took a vote of no confidence, which is the first step in removing a chair and vice chair from office. (4) comments
The proposal to look into extending library hours was put on hold at Wednesday's Student Senate meeting. It will be re-worded for next week's meeting. The new proposal, if approved, is going to allow the academic affairs committee to research the possibility of a need for more library hours by polling students. (0) comments
