Senior midfielder Mike Lewis had to be the most surprised person at Lakeside Field on Sunday in the 76th minute of the Panthers home opener against Missouri-Kansas City. The St. Charles, Mo., native stood on the far right sideline as he tried to cross the ball into the box to give teammate senior forward Brad Peters a chance to break a 1-1 tie. (0) comments

Eastern men's soccer team plays a tough non-conference schedule. The Panthers play nationally ranked teams in Northwestern and Ohio State. Then you add in perennial standout Western Illinois. Tough non-conference schedule indeed. Which is why it is a good sign for the Panthers that the team has improved on every game since Eastern lost to Indianapolis 2-0 in the team's final preseason game. (0) comments

Volleyball: Panthers fall to Houston Baptist

Coming into the North Carolina Central Tournament, Eastern knew Houston Baptist would be their hardest competition. Unfortunately, that assessment was true. Eastern lost a three-set battle (23-25, 26-28, 17-25) on Saturday at Durham, N.C., to the Huskies and failed to advance to the championship or third place game. (0) comments

Football: Eastern grad Rucker sticking with Steelers

Micah Rucker wasn't without a job in the National Football League for long. Rucker, a former Eastern wide receiver, was released from the Steelers' active roster on Saturday afternoon during the final roster cuts of the season so Pittsburgh could get its roster to the NFL limit of 53 players. Down 10-5, with four minutes remaining in the game against the Wisconsin College All-Stars on Saturday, Eastern head women's rugby coach Frank Graziano called the Panthers to the sidelines. "They are tired and we are tired. In these last four minutes, it is going to come down to whichever team hustles the most," Graziano said he told his team. (0) comments

Eastern red-shirt senior defensive end Pierre Walters was named to the Buck Buchanan Award watch list on Friday. Awarded in honor of former Kansas City Chiefs' star Buck Buchanan, the award is given to the top defensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision. (0) comments

Sophomore goalkeeper Kaylin Lorbert recorded her first career shutout as the Eastern women's soccer team finished 0-1-1 at the Northern Illinois Invitational this weekend. Lorbert, starting for the injured junior Jenny Williams, took advantage of her opportunity by making 16 saves and allowing only one goal in two matches. (0) comments
