Campus, city prepared for summer events

All residence halls that are not being renovated will be available to house about 2,500 high school track athletes this weekend. Eastern will host the Illinois High School Association girls track state finals this weekend, and Mark Hudson, director of Housing and Dining Services, said rooms and kitchens were prepared throughout this week. Two Eastern alumni being considered for open budget director position

Finalists for the vacant budget director position were announced, and the Office of Business Affairs hopes to make its decision in about a week. Carole Borggren, Dennis Jones and John Sipes are the finalists. Borggren is currently the director for the Office of Financial Analysis and Budget at Howard University in Washington, D. (1) comment

Paying the price

The cost of damaged, late and unreturned books totaled nearly $150,000 for spring semester, according to Textbook Rental estimates. Carol Miller, deputy director of Textbook Rental, said the implementation of the auto bill pay system in August 2007 has reduced charges to students because of e-mail notifications. (0) comments

Summer help opens free, fair

The Writing Center will be open during the initial four week summer session that started Wednesday. It has not been open during that time in past years but will now remain open until its usual closing date on July 16. In previous years, the Writing Center did not open until the eight-week summer sessions started June 11. (1) comment

Staffers from Information Technology Services are still determining how to fix a back-up power generator in the Student Services Building. All university servers went offline during the early morning of May 6 during a regular bi-weekly test of the backup power generator. (0) comments
