The School of Technology professor introduced his class to the idea of an alternative fuel source project six years ago. Charles Delman does not rely on his cell phone often. He said he would go crazy if he did. "I try to keep it on when we are negotiating or if some kind of major event is occurring at that moment," Delman said. "I think the battery is debunked." Time hasn't worn away the feel of Christmas

Christopher Wixson's favorite holiday story is not one to be found in a book. While attending a Christmas party at his future father-in-law's house before he was married, the assistant English professor created his own story, and quite a mess. Wixson said he had drank a little too much punch and decided that he needed to tend the fire but was unwilling to put his drink down to free up his hand. (0) comments

RHA members say goodbye

Budget tabled at last meeting of semester

The final Residence Hall Association meeting of the semester, held Thursday in Lawson Hall, saw several students take part in the last RHA meeting of their student careers. The official business of the meeting dealt mainly with the tabling of the proposed 2007-08 RHA budget, which will be voted on at the first meeting of next semester. (0) comments

Kirsten Kraus is excited to trace her roots. Kraus, junior physical education major, will be studying abroad in Austria next semester through the University of Oregon. Although Kraus is an Eastern student, the University of Oregon had the program she wanted to study through and the two universities worked together to help Kraus fulfill her travel dreams. Local Charleston churches are getting into the holiday spirit by giving. Lynn Collins, from the Charleston Area Churches Food Pantry, located in the First Christian Church on Fourth and Jackson streets, said that the need for food is not more at this time of year - the hungry are hungry all year round, but giving increases. To Ashley McHugh, music speaks straight from the heart. "Music is a means of language communicating between the soul," she said. The sophomore vocal music education major will be performing her first solo at Eastern in the performance of Handel's "Messiah" tonight. (0) comments

The holiday season is usually a time for happiness and cheer. But for children who suffer from poverty, the holiday times are not very cheerful. To help those children in need, the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 88 of the Charleston Police Department will host its annual Shop with a Cop event, followed by a pizza party in Thomas Hall on Sunday. Jill Sparenberg said she cannot effectively perform multiple tasks at once. Sparenberg, a senior elementary education major with the middle level option, has been a desk assistant at Lawson Hall for the past two-and-a-half years. As a desk assistant, Sparenberg checks equipment out to residents, distributes mail, helps residents who lock themselves out and answers phone calls. (0) comments

Shortly after the winter solstice, the brightest shine in the Eastern sky this holidays season will be the planet Mars. When winter solstice takes place Dec. 21, the Earth receives the least amount of energy from the sun making it the shortest day and the longest night of the year. (0) comments

Runoff election for at large Student Senate seat Students can vote today for the eighth at-large Student Senate seat today in the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union. Sarah Shaw from the Student United Party and Keith Darby from the United Party of Students tied in the Student Government elections, which took place Monday and Tuesday. (0) comments
