People gathered at the Tarble Arts Center Atrium Wednesday to hear architect Antoine Predock express his ideas for the design of the new Doudna Fine Arts Center. Predock has received the 2006 Gold Medal from the American Institute of Architects. He showed images of previous designs to capture the audience.
Charlie Dukes, a World War II Veteran, shared stories Wednesday of how he survived in Russian camps during the war with only one meal a day and no clean clothes. Not only has he spent years telling his stories and collecting vintage memorabilia from his days in the war, but he recently wrote a book for his children telling the stories of his time overseas titled "Good Morning - But the Nightmares Never End. This phrase over time has become the beginning of most of his lectures at schools he's visited to share his tales of being on the run during WWII.
The University Mission Statement is under a process of modification and review, said Patricia Fewell, chair of the secondary education and foundations department. "The mission statement exists to explain what Eastern Illinois University is all about," said President Lou Hencken.
Michelle, Alicia and Nicole Wroblewski were already biological sisters, but when they all joined Alpha Phi sorority, they found themselves sharing another type of sisterhood bond. Michelle, the oldest of five sisters, was the first to join Eastern's chapter of Alpha Phi and her younger sister, Alicia, an Eastern graduate of 2005, decided to follow in her footsteps.
Charleston's Tax Increment Funding fund has helped to improve the conditions in downtown Charleston for over 13 years. The TIF fund is a tax increment used to restore and repair Charleston businesses and city infrastructure in the area surrounding the square known as the "TIF District.
Flyers are posted around the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union Food Court stating that stolen items such as trays and silverware have cost more than $600. The signs are posted to encourage students to only use trays if needed and to please not walk away with trays or other items from the union or dining halls.
