The foyer of Old Main was full of holiday cheer last night with ensembles playing traditional holiday songs and Christmas trees decorated with ornaments created by children from local elementary schools. The event was Eastern's annual community and campus holiday party; this year the theme was "Homegrown Holiday.

Eastern's administration and staff enjoyed the Christmas spirit and discussed their plans for break among children's ornaments decorating large Christmas trees in the foyer of Old Main Wednesday. Many administrators, faculty and staff members attended Eastern's annual holiday party, titled "Homegrown Holiday.

Howell decides to step down after more than three years of leadership

Student Senate was emotionally heated Wednesday when the members voted on the new Speaker of the Senate. Adam Howell, the former speaker, is not returning after three and a half years of serving on the Student Senate. "There is no possible way to put down in words how I felt about this semester," Howell said to the senate.

At the final meeting of the semester, Student Senate passed legislation to give additional funds to Amp, University Board's promotional magazine. After consideration and looking at past numbers for the publication, senate members voted to pass the item. "I want to thank Nicole (DeToye) for coming to speak to us," said senate member Tori Frazier.

The choirs are in tune. The candles are lit. The trees are up, and decorations adorn the church. Two Eastern Illinois University choirs will join together tonight to bring the spirit of Christmas to Charleston. Under the direction of Richard Rossi and Gary Jensen, 35 men and women that make up the Eastern Concert Choir and Women's Chorus will perform in a holiday-themed concert.

Faculty and staff will get a first glance at new emerging classroom teaching technologies today during an online seminar sponsored by Gateway Computers. The Center for Academic Technology Support will host an Emerging Technologies for the Digital Classroom seminar, which will explore new teaching tools within the digital classroom and how educators can use such tools to educate technology proficiently and audio-visually.

No place like home

A college town has its downfalls, but residents still like Charleston

Cars lined both side sides of Cedar Drive as the newly rented college house had its first party. "We were disappointed and called the landlord," said Rob Edwards, a neighbor. "We haven't had a problem since." Cheryl Loewen, who lives on Sixth Street, has had stolen bicycles, broken chairs and beer cans on her lawn.

Graduating students will have to start making some important life choices as the semester comes closer to an end. While some Eastern seniors are choosing to get a job in the "real world," some plan to continue their education at graduate school. History department chair Anita Shelton said most of the history students get jobs because they are graduating with teaching certificates and are ready to apply for them.
