The auction of the former Long John Silver's on Friday did not reveal a winner because the owner rejected all bids. However, though the $190,000 bid was rejected, the property was sold afterward, said Michael Stanfield, the auctioneer from Stanfield Auction Co.

The chilly fall weather is causing students to cover up their tank tops and T-shirts with hooded sweatshirts and jackets to keep warm. But clothes aren't the only things changing for students; the colder weather is affecting Eastern students' social lives as well.

A crowd of 100 people got an extra treat Friday evening at the 7th Street Underground when word got around of a bonus performer. The scheduled headliner, comedian C-Dawg, brought with him a member of his improvisation troupe, Swift, to entertain Eastern students.

The Council on University Planning and Budget began its role for developing Eastern's future mission statement at Friday's meeting. Jill Nilsen, vice president for external relations, officially presented the council with a mission statement package including a copy of the present mission statement, President Lou Hencken's discussion questions and a timeline.

Heather Janik, the chair of the internal affairs committee, said she has never seen the type of relationship building that is going on in Student Senate this semester. "Last year, there was one person I hung out with (in Student Senate)," Janik said. "This senate is doing an excellent job.

Sherri Smith isn't afraid of stereotypes, and she thinks Eastern students should not be either. But they should be informed. Smith, chair of the Student Senate diversity affairs committee, will be taking part in "Power of Words," an event sponsored by EIUnity.
