Junior outside hitter Kara Sorenson had a career-high 17 kills and three Panthers recorded at least 20 digs to help them complete a perfect weekend by defeating Eastern Kentucky 3-1 on Saturday. The Panthers defeated Morehead State 3-0 on Friday. The Panthers (8-4, 4-0) are one of two teams who remain unbeaten in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Eastern is riding a two-game win streak after coming away with two victories this weekend at Lakeside Field, topping Tennessee Tech 3-1 on Friday and Austin Peay 1-0 on Sunday. With Sunday's shutout of the Lady Govs, senior goalie Tiffany Groene broke the Ohio Valley Conference all-time shutout record.
Jacksonville State's football team has found themselves in an unfamiliar place. For the first time since the Gamecocks joined the Ohio Valley Conference in 2003 they aren't at the front of the pack in the conference title race. After losing to Eastern Kentucky 31-14 on Saturday, Jacksonville State sits at 1-1 in the OVC and an alarming 1-4 overall record.
Eastern had its four-game winning streak against Northern Illinois come to an end Sunday in a sloppy, defensive battle. The Panthers (3-5-1) lost to the Huskies (7-2-1) 1-0 at Lakeside Field after taking a 0-0 tie into halftime. The second half was delayed 30 minutes after a thunderstorm soaked the field and threatened to end the game at half.
