The Panthers went to Champaign last weekend and split two matches, losing to Illinois (9-2) in five games and sweeping University of Illinois-Chicago (3-9). The first game of the Illinois match served notice that Eastern wasn't going out quietly against a team that was just outside of the Top 25 in the most recent national poll.
Eastern was shut out for the first time this season as the men's soccer team failed to take advantage of key opportunities against the University of Illinois-Chicago. The Panthers (2-4-1) lost this defensive struggle to the Flames (3-0-1) by a score of 1-0 with the only goal coming five minutes into the game off of the leg of junior midfielder Eric Cervantes.
It is only natural to compare a volleyball match between a team that is perennially in the national rankings and a team that is under .500 and nowhere near the rankings to the battle between David and Goliath. The Fighting Illini of Illinois can be considered a Goliath.
