Gov. Rod Blagojevich's budget proposal for the fiscal year 2006 would give no new funding to Eastern and cut pension benefits for new university employees. Blagojevich's proposal, which was announced Wednesday, would set Eastern's state funding at $47.6 million, the same as last year.
During the past seven weeks, four Eastern women have been working hard and showing their dedication in preparation for one night. Since Jan. 10, from 6 to 10 p.m., five days a week, the contestants of the 2005 Miss Black EIU pageant have been running through the entire show.

Andrew Heinzmann was born on July 3, 2001 and was diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome 17 months later. Angelman Syndrome (AS) causes children not to develop properly. Children with AS do not develop cognitively, and their speech is limited. In most cases "Angels" language consists of only four to five unintelligible words.
Brian Wolf, a sophomore art education major, has wanted to quit smoking for a long time but never had the incentive, but now Gov. Rod Blagojevich may provide it. Blagojevich suggested a new cigarette tax in his proposed budget for the 2006 fiscal year to help save money.
Eastern's shuttle bus service, the Panther Express, has added the University Apartments to its route. At the beginning of last semester, the Eastern Student-Parent Association approached the Student Senate to add University Apartments to the shuttle bus route.
Eastern's Interfraternity Council won the Jellison award for overall excellence this weekend during the annual Mid-American Greek Council Association conference in Chicago. An awards ceremony was held Saturday evening to recognize organizations from approximately 200 schools for excellence in categories including academic achievement, council management, community service and philanthropy, leadership and educational development, membership recruitment, public relations, risk reduction and management and self government and judicial affairs.
The Daily Eastern News and Diverse publications brought home several awards at this weekend's Illinois College Press Association awards banquet in Chicago. The DEN claimed 21 awards, including four first place accolades, while Diverse received four awards in the non-dailies above 4,000 circulation category.
