Wife of former Illinois Gov. Jim Edgar, Brenda Edgar, will speak at 7 p.m. tonight in the Buzzard Hall Auditorium.

Edgar will present "Her-story on His-story: Conversations with Brenda Edgar."

The speech is a part of the Edgar Speaker Series that was funded by Jim and Brenda Edgar. The Edgars donated $150,000 to their alma mater to create a program that would bring two speakers to Eastern each year. The lecture series will focus on issues in state government.

Jim lectured at Eastern in October.

The Edgars met while attending Eastern. Brenda put her degree on hold to raise the couple's two children and help Jim with his political career. Jim was governor of Illinois from 1991-1999.

Brenda completed her degree in 1998, graduating with a bachelors of arts degree in general studies. After finishing her degree, Brenda established the Brenda Edgar Scholarship for Women, which is awarded to returning female parents over the age of 25.

The lecture is free and open to the public.
