Editorial: New smoking ban unbalanced, unfair

Abstract:
As President Obama signs what is said to be the most powerful anti-smoking act, it seems time to question the fairness of the impact this has on smokers.

It seemed at first that, although many didn't particularly like the act that banned smoking in public places in Illinois, they understood it....

If Obamma thought he could get TV time by announcing a ban on banning ban, he would rush to his shiny plane, fly off to somewhere of no consequence and hold a press conference where all attendees would be relatives or others of limited gray matter but pockets full of ACORN.

Obama is not trying to be fair about anything. It's all about looking like he's trying to fix a problem. He could not possibly EVER get any kind of regulation or ban on alcohol. He just could not win that battle. Everyone hates smokers so they are an easy target. Imagine all the programs that are not or will not be funded in the future b/c no one is smoking any more. All that cigarette tax will be no more. He is shooting them in the foot. Imagine the load on our health care system if we all start living remarkably longer lives b/c we eat better, don't smoke and are generally more healthy! God forbid we develop a national health system. Medicare/Medicaid, Social Security are already billions of dollars in debt and filled with overbilling and fraud. Imagine the load of all us healthy folks on the system. Wake up people!
