The mac vs. pc debate gets heated

Abstract:
We can thank the recent Mac TV ads for engraving the idea that a PC equals a man in a stuffy suit while the Mac is the cool, laid-back kid. So which is really better, Mac or PC? Doug Lawhead works at Eastern as a network LAN support specialist. He works with Macs on Eastern's campus and believes they are more reliable and stable than a PC....

Well, it makes sense that the editor of PC Magazine would be plugging Windows.

Switching to a Mac is the best computing decision I ever made. The time I've saved not dealing with Windows and its problems, the integration of hardware and software, the solidity of the operating system, the aesthetics of Mac programs (beautifully designed, more often than not): Mac has Windows beat in every respect.

I don't really have much against the Mac, but I am a PC fan. The only thing that bothers me is marketing/advertisements that "call out" competitors. All Mac adds are totally "dissing" PC's...why not just talk about the benefits of a Mac directly instead of attacking a competitor? Anyone else feel this way?

I did feel that the new Mac ads that came out on the day Windows 7 came out were a bit preemptive, but it's an interesting marketing technique.

As somebody who has had the opportunity to use an older Mac, then Windows 95 and XP at home, and now a MacBook and the iMacs at school, I do have to say that Mac has its definite advantages over PCs.

While the slight myth of total protection from viruses on Macs is an issue, a Mac's ability to run both Macintosh AND Windows on the same computer is something to consider.

As for me, I just live with both worlds, having had the opportunities to be in both of them. I just need to keep from hitting the Control key so much when I'm on a PC, since PCs actually have a right mouse button. :D

I really like PC. It is very easy to use. I tried Mac before but I couldn't figure out how to use it. I rather stick with PC now that Window 7 is out. Another advantage that PC has is the price. It is so affordable. I got my laptop for $600 and I like it better than Mac.

I'm with PC User. I think both Mac and PC have good AND bad qualities. However, it's the Mac commercials that really just turn me off. With the Windows commercials, they talk about what's good about them. With Mac commercials, they talk about what's bad about Windows. All I've heard from Mac themselves is that there's bad stuff about Windows. Honestly, they problems they mention aren't problems I've come across, and I've always owned a Windows computer. I've never even had a virus.

When I was looking for a new laptop, I needed something in a price range. I looked at Macs, but their starting price was -considerably- outside of my price range. Even their cheapest one that was somewhat close wasn't as good as a few of the Windows computers I looked at. I've used a Mac plenty of times, but when it comes to a personal computer? Windows won simply for how affordable it was. My laptop now has a better harddrive at a starting price of 1000 than the Mac that was starting at 1600.

On this topic: the fight is stupid. It's like fighting between Dell and HP, or Aldi's and Walmart, or Xbox and Wii and PS3. No one really cares, it comes down to what the person buying it wants, what they like, and what they're comfortable with. It's not like the people buying the Macs are going to kill those of us buying Windows with machetes and shotguns one day. I'm glad this article took a somewhat neutral stand and at least mentioned that both have good and bad sides to them.

(Also...PC stands for personal computer...in a sense, both Windows and Mac sell PCs as many of us buy our own personal computer. A little misleading? Possibly. Either way. It doesn't necessarily matter...)
