So, what, this Comment function is only used by people looking to nitpick articles? No one has any real opinions?

well its pretty much what one would expect to run in the den. Truth be told the nitpicking tends to be the best part about this paper online, not like anyone is going to actually learn anything from this publication.

Well then, based on your airtight logic I guess no one must expect to learn anything by reading the Peoria Journal-Star. Clearly the writer agrees with me that this is a story worth commenting on, which you seem to believe have no place in the DEN. Guess again.

never said that the story was not newsworthy sport simply throwing out there my growing disgust with the tone of the dens writing. News always has a place in a paper, people slanting the news does not. not really sure where you got the airtight logic line but what ever makes ya happy

You do know this is a column that was run in the Opinion section, right? It's supposed to take a side, that's the point.

This reminds me of the "Greek Week is Weak" editorial a couple years ago. People mistook for truth what was opinion.

And the bit about airtight logic: your first comment there was ambiguous. I read it as you negatively lumping this particular column in with everything else the DEN publishes, saying that no one expects to learn anything from reading it. That's why I cited a larger, wider-read newspaper, to establish legitimacy for the subject matter.

Probably an overblown explanation for my thinking, but oh well.

Bush is a popular president with Republicans. He's not reviled by the entire American public. Schock is a Republican and he'd be stupid NOT to have Bush there. Duh. Your liberalism is blatantly obvious. If you were a Democrat running for office, would you turn down Jimmy Carter?

Hate to tell you, but Bush isn't very popular with Republicans, either. I have seen quite a few Republicans try to distance themselves as far away from Dubya, if they expect to get elected or re-elected to office. These days, more new voters are registering as Democrats, and more previous Republicans are switching parties to either Independent or Democrat, mainly because they do not approve in any way shape or form the direction this country is going toward by Bush. The only people who really approve of Bush are the ones with deep pockets, and unfortunately, they only range in the upper 5-10% of the country's population. At this point in time, it will be the lower-to-middle class people who actually have the opportunity to have their voices heard.
