WTF?

I noticed a comment on yesterday's "Sarah Palin, Part Two," and I am starting to agree with it. Why is it necessary to have three editorial cartoons bashing and/or criticizing Sarah Palin in the pages of the DEN?

Furthermore, yesterday's pointed out more of what is wrong with the media in general than with Palin's credentials. What is the significance of drawing a comparison between Jamie Lynn Spears and Palin's daughter? What does it really matter if Palin will soon be aa grandmother? Leave her family life out of the press; even Illinois' RESPECTFUL senator (not the one running against Palin and McCain) called for her family to be left alone, and he's a Democrat.

I hope to see a series of three cartoons criticizing Joe Biden for things he does or says. Maybe you can find something as ludicrous as a pregnant daughter to point out there, too. Or maybe the DEN just wants to make it blatantly obvious that it is on Obama propagandist of an editorial organization. From these cartoons, even Helen Keller could see where they DEN has blindly placed its allegiance.

First, she never even implied that in her speech. Second, using Jesus Christ to denounce her is taking it too far because, a) It portrays him as a political figure, which he wasn't, b) It indicates the views of the cartoonist as being blatantly against the War in Iraq, which is okay to state, BUT the cartoonist appears to believe that Jesus Christ cares about politics to the point that He would call out somebody over a political issue. The fact of the matter is, Jesus would not scream "Blasphemy!" at somebody over a political issue simply because He is love. That sounds vague, but it's not. Jesus Christ did not, and does not, care about the essence of politics. He cares about the people, and that's EVERYONE. Everyone in the world, and everyone on both sides of the political spectrum.

You guys do realize that these are political cartoons, right? As in satire. Jesus is an easy (maybe even cheap) way of making a cartoon funny. Getting so riled up over a political cartoon is simply retarded.

Also, Just because the two cartoonists decided to draw Palin cartoons does not mean the DEN hates Palin.
It would be inappropriate for the DEN to tell their cartoonists (who, by the way, rarely, if ever, report) what to draw. Unless either of these cartoons can be claimed as libelous (Jesus being dead and Palin being a public figure), there is no reason for the DEN to censor its artists.

I know political cartoons are satire, and today I believe the satire was taken too far. I'm not saying DEN should censor the artists, I'm merely stating my opinion that using Jesus Christ in this cartoon has no basis and I believe it is not necessary. To me, Jesus is not someone to make fun of, not because I believe I'll be judged, but because Jesus was more humble than any person who has walked the earth. Furthermore, what He did on the cross for everyone who has ever lived is not something to look down upon.

Its one thing to state your opinion, but to act as though your opinions are backed up by facts (the fact that jesus is love or that he was even a good person). I'm sorry but those aren't facts. Jesus is more or less a symbol. And in the world of political cartoons and humor, he is on the same playing ground as an elephant.
Whether that offends you or not is up to you, but I would say the fact that the cartoon elicited a response at all makes it a success.

Jesus is a joke. You're more of a joke for standing up to him. The bible doesn't tell the whole story of jesus. if it did it would be much longer and talk about everything he ate and shat. Get over it!...or pray about it, that will make you feel better!

Serious face, the fact of the matter is, I do believe my opinion is backed up by fact.

And to Johnson, whether you like it or not, I pray you find your way to God eventually before it is too late. And I'm not trying to force my religion on you.

I agree with GSane. Not because I believe in Jesus or even care about Him. But mostly because if it was a cartoon of some Muslim government official and someone drew Mohamed shouting infidel or whatever, there would be screams of horror and protest and the DEN and the University would run out of ink writing apologies to anyone that would listen.

Like holy heck the DEN would apologize for it. If they did, I'd reenroll just to join the paper and slap some sense into them, but I can't ever imagine them doing it.

I am voting for Palin, but I think this is a very funny cartoon. I know that she is not perfect but the other person in the cartoon is supposed to be perfect. Once Jesus said "he who is without sin can throw the first stone." Then a lady threw a stone. Jesus said "Mom, stop showing off."

I agree with "he who is without sin can throw the first stone," but how does that apply to this specific cartoon?
