'There's no way I'm going to let her name die out'

Abstract:
The tears did not come until later that day for Micah Rucker. That day was Jan. 28. Rucker's cell phone rang at 6 a.m. that Sunday morning. But he was asleep in his Charleston apartment and missed the call. When he woke up later that day around noon, a voicemail from his girlfriend's younger brother changed his life....

Wow Daniels, what a beautiful, well-written story. *sigh* It's all I can do to keep from crying...wow. Thanks for such an insightful, lovely story about an awesome EIU football player. Also, I appreciate what the story conveys about the tragedies caused by drunk driving. It's amazing how many people STILL don't get it...

Micah I met you in the senior seminar we took together this summer and I knew then that you were someone special. This outgrowth of your personal pain turned into something positive only serves to illustrate just how special you are. What an inspiring story. I think your talent on the field may lead to our seeing you play on sunday someday, but if not I know that you will continue to inspire and lead by your quiet example of preserverance in the face of tragedy. Well done young man! The world needs more young leaders like you!

Micah, I am so sorry for your loss I too know what you went through having lost my grandmother to a drunk driver while she was sleeping in her own house and the man drove through her house, killing her. I believe you know my boyfriend Ed Miller of the track team. I was there visiting homecoming and saw you play, he told me a little about you. I did not know of you last year when I was a senior at EIU. I was on student government as a senator and had high hopes of making a difference related to drinking and driving. unfortunately I am one person and could not find the support i needed to do much about it. i wish our paths would have crossed sooner before i graduate. i am relieved knowing something is being done in charleston to address the issue of drinking and driving. i saw it every weekend and it is a major problem, not only for eiu but all colleges across the country. i give you much credit for what you are doing so soon. i lost my grandmother in 1990 and have been involved with MADD and AAIM since but i dont think i could have been so proactive so soon after such a tragedy. good luck with everything and if you need support or ideas you can contact me through Ed. :)

Micah, thank you so much for doing what your doing for her. I love Becca so much. I met Becca when she started working at Baker's Shoes w/ me and we remain friends ever since. Like friends we had our ups and downs but throughout the 6 years that I known her she was the only person that I have ever meant in Minnesota that was so true & real. I never meant someone like her. She had such a big heart! Losing her has been so hard for me. The last time I talked to her was Friday Jan 26th-after disappointing her about me not able to make it to her goodbye dinner. She made me promise to go eat Pho w/her before she left to Italy on Monday-we couldn't do it Sat because she had more packing to do, and it was family time she said-so we made plans for Sunday. She said Lindalou promise we go on Sunday ok- I said yes girl I promise- I didn't get a chance to keep my promise.
but thank you again for keeping her memory alive, i cried while reading this whole article. your a wonderful person, and I know she loved you so much. I know I'm in minneasota but if there is anything i can do to help please let me know.
